People often assume that kids who grow up in big cities have thicker skin, are more resilient, and are less likely to need help. Particularly as Black teens, we’re often told, whether directly or indirectly, to “stay strong” and never show anyone how much social perception affects us. But too often, strength gets conflated with silence.
